If you ever played the series of Suikoden you kind of get the same feel from this ds one. You, the hero and his friends start off by going to take care of some monsters when suddenly a forest appears out of nowhere. You are the first to say "where did it come from" but everyone else seems to think it has always been there. Later when you and your friends find a book that allows them to remember it had in fact just appeared you make it your quest to find out what / who is behind it and make it stop.
The game play and story line is really good. The fact that you can find 108 total "star bearers" (playable characters (support characters included)) makes it interesting. sadly the voice overs are a bit rushed and sound a tad horrible, the music however is quite excellent! the cut scenes aren't that great but still some of them are better then none. -more will be added since I've still haven't beaten it-

Queen Beryl is the main enemy in the first series, sending out the generals to help her succeed in conquering Earth after a failed attempt 1000 years ago. The first two generals are sent to gather energy to empower the Negaforce. Later Zoisite was sent to retrieve the seven Rainbow Crystals, and Malachite was sent to get back the Imperium Silver Crystal from Sailor Moon. Upon their failings, the evil queen is forced to take matters into her own hands, but she is ultimately defeated by Princess Serena and never seen again.

Biography: Hashirama Senju was the leader of the Senju clan of the Forest. He and Madara Uchiha co-founded Konohagakure and Hashirama became the the First Hokage (Shodaime) of Konoha. The First was revered for his ability to use wood-based jutsu, which is a bloodline limit ability that combines Earth and Water element chakra together. The other special talent the First possessed was the ability to control, to some extent, the powerful Tailed-Beasts.
The First is the older brother to the Second Hokage of Konoha and the grandfather of Tsunade. He, along with his brother, were the sensei for Sarutobi, Homura Mitokado, and Koharu Utatane. After he died, his DNA was stolen and used for human experimentation by Orochimaru. Of Orochimaru’s sixty test subjects, only one child survived - Yamato, who inherited both of the First’s special abilities. The First along with his brother, were resurrected by Orochimaru’s Impure World Resurrection Summoning during the attack on Konoha. To defeat him, the Third sealed his soul inside one of his shadow clones using the Dead Demon Consuming Seal.

The Fourth Hokage was the one who used the Shinigami technique to seal the spirit of the Nine Tailed Fox inside of Naruto. He could not have sealed the Kyuubi into himself because the Kyuubi's soul could not be contained by that jutsu. The jutsu is designed to take both the caster and the target's soul and entwine them inside the shinigami, to battle for all eternity. Kyuubi was too strong and would have gained strength while in hell until it was strong enough to overpower the gatekeeper and escape.
And so The Fourth Hokage designed the seal on Naruto to transfer the soul he ripped from Kyuubi's body into Naruto. The seal on Naruto slowly drains Kyuubi's Chakra and infuses it with Naruto. And as Kyuubi mentions to Naruto, if Naruto is to die, the Kyuubi is destroyed, with no chance of escaping.
According to chapter 370 of the manga, The Fourth Hokage only sealed the good half within Naruto. Nobody yet knows where he sealed the evil half, though there are definitely theories floating around (such as the rest being sealed in the 4th, or perhaps another part of Naruto). In sealing the demon he gave his life and the Third Hokage came out of retirement to take his place. His real name has yet to be mentioned in the anime, but it was mentioned in the manga and it is seen written in Japanese on the summoning contract that Naruto signs to call forth Gamabunta (though it's illegible).
The Fourth Hokage, before he became Hokage, was taught by Master Jiraiya, and the Fourth Hokage was also the one who trained Kakashi who is the sensei of Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto. It was previously unknown who the teammates of Kakashi were that also trained under the Fourth Hokage, but later it's revealed that they are Obito Uchiha, and Rin.

The Deal with him: Sarutobi sensei is almost like a kind grandfather to the villagers of the Leaf. He was chosen to be the 3rd Hokage when he was just a child by the 1st and 2nd Hokages. He goes by the nickname of "Professor" for learning over a thousand jutsus. Some says he's the most powerful Hokage when he was in his prime.
After the 4th Hokage was chosen, Sandaime decided to retire. He was however forced out of retirement when Yondaime sacrificed himself while protecting the Village against the Kyuubi.
Even at the age of 68, Sarutobi still intended to be the Hokage for another 5 years or more. But his life was rudely interrupted by his former favourite student Orochimaru, who lost a screw after he wasn't chosen to be the 4th Hokage. Vengeful against the Leaf which exiled him, he came back to destroy the village and to kill his teacher. Sandaime was killed in the battle with Orochimaru and the 1st and 2nd Hokage (which Orochimaru brought back to life to aid his fight). Before he died, he took away the use of Orochimaru's hands.

The Deal with him: Kabuto is a traitor and spy of the Hidden Village of Sound and Orochimaru's right hand man. He pretends to be a Genin of the Leaf who failed the Chunnin exams 6 times in a row on purpose to gather data for Orochimaru. He is as strong as a jounin and is even said that his strength is comparable to Kakashi's.

Mitsune Konno (紺野 みつね Konno Mitsune), also known as Kitsune (キツネ), is a 19-year-old freelancer who speaks with a Kansei dialect, and is often known by her nickname "Kitsune" (literally "fox"). Mitsune was a school friend of Naru's and often interferes in Naru's and Keitaro's relationship. She is often drunk, bets on horse races, and enjoys teasing Keitaro. In the anime, Mitsune was voiced by Junko Noda in the Japanese version and by Barbara Goodson in the English version.

Kaolla Su (カオラ スゥ Kaora Sū) is a 13-year-old foreign transfer student, and princess of her home island. Su is hyperactive and often treats Keitaro as a plaything. Although she is young, she has an in-depth knowledge of creating gadgets and weapons. Su has an older sister and an older brother, and during a red moon transforms into an adult version of herself. In the anime, Su is voiced Reiko Takagi in the Japanese version and Wendee Lee in the English version.

Motoko Aoyama (青山 素子 Aoyama Motoko) is a 15-year-old high school girl who is descended from a family of Kendo experts. Motoko is very serious and takes an instant dislike to Keitaro, often attacking him with a wooden sword or katana. She is at first uncomfortable with her femininity, partially because her sister left her sword for a husband, partially because of her height: she is the tallest person in the house, 4 cm taller than Keitaro. Motoko also has an irrational fear of turtles. In the anime, Yū Asakawa in the Japanese version and Mona Marshall in the English version voice Motoko.
