If you ever played the series of Suikoden you kind of get the same feel from this ds one. You, the hero and his friends start off by going to take care of some monsters when suddenly a forest appears out of nowhere. You are the first to say "where did it come from" but everyone else seems to think it has always been there. Later when you and your friends find a book that allows them to remember it had in fact just appeared you make it your quest to find out what / who is behind it and make it stop.
The game play and story line is really good. The fact that you can find 108 total "star bearers" (playable characters (support characters included)) makes it interesting. sadly the voice overs are a bit rushed and sound a tad horrible, the music however is quite excellent! the cut scenes aren't that great but still some of them are better then none. -more will be added since I've still haven't beaten it-
